Canada Stampless
1855 (November 2) Folded cover with PAID handstamp in red, manuscript “9” for triple domestic letter rate and One penny registration paid in cash as customary, showing a remarkable misspelt straightline RERISTERED handstamp in red, Brant, U.C. double arc dispatch with filled-in date; Bentick, Saugeen and Owen Sound backstamps. According to Horace Harrison, Brant was the only post office (among 1,293 locations) that had a handstamp with a spelling error; it was short-lived to about April 1856 at which time a corrected version was supplied.
A great cover ideal for a serious Registered Mail collection, Very Fine and rarely seen, only five such usages have been reported by Harrison, Arfken & Lussey.
