Newfoundland C4, 132
1927 (May 20) De Pinedo Flight cover addressed to Lisbon, Portugal, bearing a quite well centered, sound example of the very scarce special provisional "Air Mail / DE PINEDO / 1927" three-line flight overprint stamp with fresh colour and intact perforations, used alongside two regular 2c red and all neatly tied by St. John's MAY 20 10AM 1927 machine cancellation, the airmail is also remarkably tied by the dater and is very unusual as such. Trepassey split ring departure at left, shows Roma 22.6.27 circular backstamp before being forwarded to Portugal. Couple light pressed folds to cover, inconsequential for this important cover - THE ONLY REPORTED DE PINEDO FLIGHT COVER BEARING REGULAR POSTAGE STAMPS IN ADDITION TO THE SPECIAL AIRMAIL STAMP. Pencil signed by experts Giorgio Colla Asinelli and Enzo Diena. A wonderful and exceptional cover worthy of a gold-medal exhibit, Very Fine; 1990 Enzo Diena and 2008 Giorgio Colla Asinelli certificates (Unitrade C4, 132)
Provenance: "Labrador" Collection of Newfoundland Airmails, February 2003; Lot 3070 The Highlands Collection, Part Three, June 2019; Lot 149
