1860 (June 23) Envelope mailed from Yarmouth to Durham, England, via Halifax, franked with Six pence yellow green and a diagonally bisected Three pence bright blue, both with full margins and cancelled by oval mute grids for the Seven and One Half pence letter rate to the United Kingdom (effective August 1, 1854 to October 1860 when currency and Decimal stamps were issued); reverse shows clear Yarmouth JU 23 1860 double arc dispatch in red, oval “H” (Halifax) JU 27 transit and small Durham JY 9 receiver CDS on reverse, some faults to backflap, accompanying certificate states: “While stamps are not tied to the cover, in the opinion of the committee the cover and usage of the stamps appear to be genuine in all respects.” A nice example of the Seven and One Half pence rate to England, only a few months before the rate change, Fine to Very Fine; 2002 Greene Foundation certificate (Unitrade 2a, 4; catalogue value $5,000) ex.
